Fairy Tale Friday

The Dorothy dress from The Wizard of Oz sold recently for $480,000. A huge amount of money for a dress. Gayle looked at the picture and said "It's not even a very nice dress, I could do better than that"....and so it was that the girls talked amongst themselves and decided that the jump from card and paper crafting wouldn't be that big a step into dressmaking. After all they were all experts in scissors.

"We could sell it all on ebay" said Maritha, "make a few Krona".

Now unfortunately, the area around Teddy Bo Towers is not in the most stylish area, it's mostly farmers in big round necked jumpers and cord trousers. The wives are all 1970's styled housewives. It probably explains why every Teddy Bo story seems to contain 70's music, and usually its Abba. The small village appears stuck around 1973.

The material was flying all around the studio and it wasn't until they'd been going for about half an hour did Gayle realise it was HER clothes that they were chopping up. In fact all Gayle's good polyester blouses had been either chopped short, had sleeves cut off, died umpteen colours, and even ripped up (apparently that's called distressing now!). Her dresses had stitches picked and were being used as patterns for, of all things ....... The curtains. Black and White broad stripes in thick curtain material. Scissors clicking, sewing machines sewing, the girls went mad with creativity.

Gayle just went mad.

But there was nothing she could really do. She ran to her room and locked her door from the inside so the girls couldn't re-model any more of her clothes. But she now had no idea of what was happening.

Three hour's later, Gayle, still in fear for her remaining clothes, heard a brief knock at the door. The girls had a fashion show set up in the park for Gayle to watch so she could make sure that the clothes were ok to sell. The girls had been busy. The village park had a big space cleared in the centre and a small catwalk set up with a curtain suspended at the far side of the catwalk for the models to enter through. Admittedly there was a big rear panel of a dress cut out of the curtain, but  then they had no intact curtains left to use.

All the men from the town had turned up dragging their wives. Imagine the shock they got when instead of Cindy Crawford and Tyra Banks, it was the girls from the Tower in some very bizarre outfits. They started to drift away, knowing what nightmares a drunken design team would cause.

And so it began. Abba's 'Super Trooper' blasted out of the stereo as the girls stomped through the curtains in some of the oddest clothes ever. All had wellie's on as none of the girls had smart high heel shoes.  Sonia had a mini dress in the black and white striped curtains.  Elaine had a paisley patterned blouse made from Gayle's PJ's. Things were going well until Donna did a sharp turn at the end of the catwalk and fell taking down Wendy and Debbie down with her into a heap on the ground. Velcro from various different jackets etc clicked in place and all three of them were stuck on the floor unable to move. The others laughed and drank and laughed some more.

Gayle finally waded in to haul them apart and recover the remains of her clothing.

So far there have been no bids for any of the outfits on ebay, though with Christmas coming, people may be on the lookout for dodgy 70's style clothing. So after their try out at being fashion designers the girls decided to concentrate on some cards as they know EXACTLY how to make wonderful cards...xx
